EqualEyes is one of the winners on this year’s Droidcon Hackathon in London, where they competed with more than 100 programmers from all over the world in a 24-hours programming marathon. This is neither the first nor the last extraordinary achievement for EqualEyes on international competitions.
Victorious on one of the biggest Android conferences in the world
Every year, Droidcon Hackathon is the battleground for many talented programmers, who compete for multinational recognition and appealing awards provided by the project’s sponsors, among which this year was Google and Audspan.
“We are of course very happy for winning. Above all, we see this as a confirmation, that we’re capable of developing in very limited conditions and a short period of time and still come up with a product that impresses the users. That’s what counts the most for our existing and also potential new clients” – stated the director of EqualEyes, Luka Topolovec, upon receiving the award.
The challenge
Using mobile technologies in Audi brand cars, innovations in the field of smartwatches and using business cards with NFC technology were the challenges categories. EqualEyes won over the judges with an innovative and fun to use Google smartwatches app, named Midnight Madness, which is all about time during the holidays.
Among the top 8 on Imagine Cup
This is not the only big victory for EqualEyes in international competitions. The co-founders, while still in college, came among the top 8 on 2011’s Imagine Cup in New York City. In the category of software development, they’ve attracted everyone’s attention with a mobile solution for the blind and visually impaired called 2ndSight, which provides adjusted user interface for using smart phones with a menu for simplified searching, speech recognition service and a set of embedded applications.
Investment, startup grant and entering Wayra
After the inclusion in Imagine Cup’s finals, EqualEyes received the startup grant P2 from the Slovenian business fund and an angel investor and later become the first Slovenian company to join London’s renowned accelerator Wayra, which is supported by the telecommunications giant Telefonica. Since then, the EqualEyes team has grown into a successful international company, which specializes in mobile software development (both own and clients projects) and operates in London, UK and Maribor, Slovenia.
Most successful own products
One of EqualEyes’s most successful own products is the same-named user interface for the blind and visually impaired on Android platforms, which took the team under the aegis of the fifth biggest mobile operator in the world – Telefonica. EqualEyes gains global recognition also with other own products, such as Pebble Apps, one of the most popular applications for smart watches Pebble with more than 100.000 downloads, and Watchface Editor, which enables complete online appearance personalization for smartwatches.
Most prominent clients
Among EqualEyes Solutions most prominent clients are ZoneV, smartphone manufactures for the blind and visually impaired; Makelight, an English company, which deals with special effects techniques on the world’s best-known celebrities concerts; and TrueView, also an English company, which is in competitive battle with Tinder, the world’s famous dating platform.
