Please tell us your name and what you do here at Equaleyes (and how long you have worked here)!
I’m Aleksandra and I’m the Sales and Marketing Executive at Equaleyes. I’ve been working here for almost 3 years now!
Ok – where did you grow up? Tell us a bit about that place.
I grew up in a town called Bitola, which is in the Republic of Macedonia. Bitola is old and loud, charming and proud, too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, a relaxed place to be, but most of all it’s beautiful and I always love going back there!
What’s your earliest childhood memory?
Getting hold of my mum’s jewellery and playing with it (and eventually ruining some).
What is the best piece of advice your mum or dad gave you?
My dad gave me a “pack” of advice by giving me the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling, which I’ve always had in my notebook since then. I’ve read it many times over and over again since then, and it set a standard I’m trying to live by.
How did you end up in Maribor and how long have you been here?
I applied to the University of Maribor for my postgraduate studies and I got in! During and after college everything just started taking its course and I’ve started growing roots in Maribor, together with my soulmate “tree” I’ve met here. So overall, I’ve been here for around 6 years now!
Favourite thing about Maribor?
It’s small, but it has all you need. It has that “like home” feeling…it’s basically a very well wrapped up city! Oh yeah, and it’s very green, which I love!
Strangest thing for you about Maribor?
It’s a ghost town after 9pm on weekdays!
Who do you admire right now and why?
My sister, for saving some stray dogs and cats in my home country recently and for caring when most people looked away.
Also, Alex Bellini, the guy who will live on an iceberg for a year. I always admire people who do extraordinary, unthinkable things for their determination, courage and devotion, like Alex or Philippe Petit let’s say. They remind me that nothing is impossible.
Best piece of advice you would give someone looking at getting into a technology job?
Make sure that that’s something you love to do, and trust in your company and its products/services!
